The story begins with the building of Vigil, a small, peaceful village that sits on the edge of a vast forest. It is home to many people who have come to know each other over the years. When they celebrate their peace treaty with Vindor, however, things change dramatically. After a nasty attack on the community by ravenous creatures called Ghouls, it falls upon our heroes to restore Vigil's peace and safety once again. Players will be able to interact with each other as they complete quests and advance through the storyline. Characters are based on real player decisions, and will gain special abilities to aid them in battle. There are multiple endings depending on the choices the player makes. The game begins with a cinematic describing an evening celebration held in Vigil to commemorate their peace treaty with Vindor, an event that has been occuring every few years since the treaty was signed. General Wyan leads his soldiers into Vigil for the party, where they enjoy food and drink for the night before departing again for war the next morning. The party is interrupted by news of a brutal assault upon their watchtower by Hordesmen, which serves as both fortification and home to many guardsmen who've stayed behind while their friends head to war. Our heroes, the player and his friends, gather before the mayor in order to investigate and help in any way possible. During the course of their journey across forests, swamps, and other dangerous lands, they fend off vicious beasts and uncover a far worse threat lurking in the shadows... As the player completes quests and progresses through the storyline, he earns experience points to use toward character development. This applies for all three characters in play at all times.
